2025 TAX RELIEF FOR ELDERLY AND/OR PERMANENT SOCIAL SECURITY DISABLED HOMEOWNERS

2024 BENEFIT YEAR FILING PERIOD FEBRUARY 1-MAY 15, 
2025 

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: MAY 15th, 4:30 p.m. 

Following are the basic qualifications for the program: 

• A homeowner must live in the home for which the credit is being sought. 

• A homeowner (or spouse, if domiciled together) must have owned the home on or before October 1, 2024.   
        
• For Local Option Relief a homeowner must have been a resident of the Town of Barkhamsted for a period of five (5) years immediately preceding the application. 
 
• A homeowner must have reached the age of 65 by December 31, 2024. Totally disabled homeowners over the age of 18 are eligible.
 
• The income limits are updated annually. A copy of SSA1099 form from Social Security must be provided. If an applicant files an income tax return, a copy must be provided. If an applicant does not file a tax return, proof of all income must be provided. 

• The assessor will also be accepting applications for the Additional Veterans Tax Relief Program for the filing period of February 1, 2025 to October 1, 2025. The income requirements for the elderly and disabled homeowners programs also apply to this program.
 
• 100% V.A. determined Disabled Veterans currently uses $18,000 for single applicants and $21,000 for married applicants (adjusted gross income only; Social Security Income is not considered).
