The Town of Barkhamsted is working on the required 10-year revision to its Plan of Conservation and Development, which includes reaching out to the public to help develop the Town’s vision for itself for the years 2017-2027. As part of this process, the Town wants to hear what their residents think Barkhamsted should be like in the next ten years, what they think is good now, what is not so good and what the improvements should be!

This process is managed by the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Selectman and there is also involvement from the other Boards and Commissions.  The revised plan is due to the State of Connecticut in 2017, but we are revising it this year, and have hired a UCONN graduate student to help us with the POCD development and to write and publish the plan, which ultimately must be approved by the Town.

Along with benchmarking other similar towns’ plans, we will hold public meetings on important topics (see below).  This information, along with the previous plan which was approved by the Town in 2007, will result in the required update.  The intention is to make sure that the Towns’ residents have a strong voice in what they would like the Town to be in the next 10+ years.

The Town of Barkhamsted will be holding a focus group for business owners to hear their perspective on the local economy and to brainstorm strategies to improve Barkhamsted’s business climate. The Business Focus Group will be held November 16th at 7:00 PM at the Barkhamsted Elementary School Cafeteria and will include a representative cross section of business owners who operate in Town. Although this is a public meeting, we have invited business owners from various segments to provide us with their input. 

Barkhamsted will be hosting three public meetings open to all Barkhamsted residents to hear what they have to say about economic development, potential housing, and environmental goals for the next decade. The general public will be invited to participate in the following meetings:
